A cure for cancer and HIV? The news was too good to be true. Unfortunately, those who thought so were absolutely right. The first dose of the 'cures' were given to ten candidates in Carson City. After 72 hours of evaluation the diseases were thought to be destroyed. There was no trace of cancerous cells or the virus to be seen. News reports went out the same day as the news was declared. The cure for these life altering diseases had been found.
Millions flocked to Carson for the cure and waited for endless hours. They could never have known that this cure would lead to devastation.
The first civilian to be attacked was a young, pregnant woman. She and her ten year old son had been walking from the local grocery store when a man bleeding from the mouth charged at her and clawed at her throat. Leaving her bleeding on the streets, the man attacked her son and the other hundreds of people on the streets of Carson. People panicked and tried to flee, but the infection coursing from the veins of this man caused a spread of infection that rippled across Carson like a plague.
Those victim, instead of dying themselves, rose from the brink of death and spread the virus too. A day passed and those people still alive knew without a doubt that it had to be the miracle cures that started all of this. The infection was in their blood.
The city was placed under red alert. The military from the north was brought in to try to hinder the spread, but by then it was already too late. Homes were boarded up and stores were raided for guns, food and water. People were shot on the street by terrified soldiers and cops. Soon even their forces were over run. The military was ordered to retreat and they did without a backwards glance. Fires were started to keep the infected away from the water's edge and bridges were burned. No one was to leave the city. It was now under mass quarantine.
Unfortunately that did not hinder the virus' spread. How far it managed to reach is unknown. The people in Carson were left to fend for themselves.
The scientist responsible for the 'cure' that supposedly started this all either disappeared, were killed or were taken into hiding. The city of Carson now burns and the stink of death lingers in the streets.
This is where our game begins.
