The finale of Bones had just been aired and they'd all watched it together as a cast. Pretty soon they would get together and talk about ideas for next season. David had began directing a little more lately and had directed several episodes of Bones. Next season he planned to be much more involved in the series production. It seemed like just yesterday they'd all gotten the jobs on this show and now, they were just finishing up the sixth season and getting ready to film the seventh. The show had been more popular then they'd imagined, most likely due to the cast's amazing chemistry.
He didn't like admitting it, but him and Emily had always had great chemistry. It seemed like there had been tension between them, but in a good way. It was good for the show and it certainly made their character's relationship believable. However, in real life, they'd never been anything but friends and David had always been fine with that. He was married and had two children, a 10 year old son named Jaden and a 2 year old daughter named Bardot. He would never do anything to hurt his family. In a way, he was pretty similar to his character Booth.
The cast had been invited along with the director and crew to watch the finale as it aired together. They usually did this, it was a sort of celebration to all of their hard work. This time they'd watched it at the actual set, in the lounge area. It was the area where everyone came to relax between takes and socialize. It had two couches set up in an L with a flat screen in front of it hanging from the wall. Then, behind that was a large table next to a small kitchenette with coffee and bagels set up. Before watching the finale they'd all gone out to eat together, and now were about to part ways.
Standing up from the table, David smoothed out his shirt and turned to Emily whom had been sitting next to him. "Turned out great, don't you think? The ending was perfect." As he waited for her reply he moved to empty his cup of coffee into the sink. He had always wondered who came and washed the dishes, as he'd never seen anyone actually wash them. Turning back to Emily, he listened as he waited for her thoughts. Her opinion was important to him, so he gave her his full attention. OH MY LOVE, WON'T YOU STOP YOUR CRYING? THE SUNLIGHT'S BRINGING RAINBOWS TO YOUR TEARS. Emily stood from her seat, a grin placed neatly on her face and situated in between her cheekbones. The finale was everything she thought it would be and more, and she could honestly say that David had done a wonderful job. She was sure he could watch the actor preform the same scenes over and over again and never get tired of it.
“It was amazing,” the actress agreed, nodding her head several times as if to prove her point. She glanced at the television, the credits rolling and reciting several names that the viewers most likely wouldn't bother to read, before returning her gaze to her comrade. She had noticed throughout the finale that she was so much skinnier than she was now; now she was stuck (not in a bad way, of course) with a little baby bump.
Many people had found it amusing that her husband's name was David and had even made jokes about it, which Emily kindly took. She understood now and when she was getting married that she had something with David, something she'd never share with anybody else and never wanted to share with anybody else, but she could never act on that something. David was married, had beautiful children and a beautiful wife; she'd had to move on.
And so she did.
She was fairly happy that everybody loved the ending. Before she'd gotten pregnant, Emily was attached to her job like it was the last thing she'd ever have. Now that she was carrying a child, she had to make room. Change was hard, and it wasn't easy, but it was something that had to be done.

She nodded her head in agreement and he couldn't help but smile. It was kind of crazy to think about how much their characters had developed over the years. The show had been on now for six years and would be on for several more. It seemed like he would never get sick of this job. Then again, he didn't get sick of Buffy or Angel either. He never really did when he loved his work. Or, when he loved his cast mate's. They really made it worth coming to work everyday and standing under the bright lights that make it almost impossible to see, and extremely hot.
After she commented on it she seemed to be looking at her stomach for a second, he wondered if she felt self conscious about it. "Hey, you look great by the way. Really. The pregnancy has made you glow." As he had said this, he'd put his hand under her chin so she would be looking at him. Realizing all of the sudden that he was still touching her, he quickly dropped his hand back down to his side. It felt comfortable to touch her and awkward at the same time, right but wrong. He couldn't help but want to comfort her though because of their friendship and how close they were.
Trying to break the slightly awkward-ness, he turned and grabbed his coat off the chair. "So are you headed home to David? I was thinking about going for a walk." Hopefully he could clear his thoughts on a nice relaxing walk without being attacked by the paparazzi. It was annoying having people constantly taking pictures of you. They hadn't been so bad lately, at least not as bad as when he'd had an affair. Well, an alleged affair. Nobody knew the truth and he didn't want to talk about it. It had been a moment of weakness and had only been for one night, he had regretted it ever since it had happened. Jaime had forgiven him and he was glad.
Or was he? Some part of him had wished that she would leave him. He loved her and his family, he just wasn't sure that he was "in love" with her anymore. But he knew that he had to stay with her for their children. Sometimes it sucked though. Putting on his jacket he turned back to Emily, wondering if she would join him or not.

OH MY LOVE, WON'T YOU STOP YOUR CRYING? THE SUNLIGHT'S BRINGING RAINBOWS TO YOUR TEARS. Emily had planned for her pregnancy, of course. Now, when she'd think about it, she felt like she'd needed something to hold her and David Hornsby together. He was a great guy, and she didn't regret marrying the man, but it was hard with their jobs (namely hers) and at the moment, they'd hardly ever see each other. And that had worried her so much that she'd decided having a child would be the best way to bring them together and attempt to make it work. Was it, though? She wasn't sure quite yet.
Her friend's fingertips against her chin caught her attention. She was used to the closeness between them, and she didn't mind it most of the time, but usually it was more playful instead of intense. In fact, before she was married, she'd even kissed the man on camera.
“Thank you,” she answered, though she felt anything but aglow. Most of the time she was simply feeling fat, and the pregnancy had hardly even begun. It would be a long time to wait, full of morning sickness and cravings and trying to keep her diet under control for the baby, though she'd never had too much of a tough time trying to keep her diet together in general.
Emily cleared her throat at some point during the awkward silence before grabbing her jacket as well. “I have time for a walk,”
she declared. Her husband was working, of course. In fact, she had all the time in the world. Emily had always used so little words, since the second they'd met. David didn't mind it as he wasn't exactly talkative either. Though, sometimes he could be extremely goofy. His wife told him often how annoying and childish it was, so he couldn't act like that at home. Instead he goofed around with his coworkers, trying to make them laugh and lighten the mood all the time. It seemed to put everyone in a better mood and made for a better show. Emily had never seemed to mind it like Jaime did, or if she did she'd never said anything about it.
Sometimes he wondered what might have happened if he hadn't met Jaime, or if he hadn't married her. It pained him to think about it, but honestly, she'd been the one who'd pushed to get married. David really hadn't wanted to marry her right away, he'd wanted to be together longer as a couple before they got married. But she'd kept pushing and pushing and pushing, he'd felt so forced. Now he felt as if maybe he was resenting her for it. At least Emily was happy in her marriage, and hadn't made the same mistake. God, did he really just think of it as a mistake? How could he think like that? Trying to shake off those thoughts, he began walking alongside Emily outside.
"So how is David anyways?" He wasn't sure why he felt the need to ask, he just did. As he said this he opened the door for her as they exited the building. It was nighttime and a bit cold outside, luckily they'd both brought jackets. The shops around the set were starting to close down. Off to their left was the parking garage, he went right. They were walking so why go towards their cars?
In the back of his mind he knew he should probably head home soon. He loved tucking Jaden in to bed and telling Bardot stories, though he rarely ever got to. Between directing and producing and acting, he pretty much had his hands full. David was thinking about taking a break between now and the next season of Bones, not doing anymore projects. It wasn't as if he needed the money and it would give him time to spend with his kids and think about somethings. Though, there wasn't much to think about. Whether or not he was happy with his situation he was stuck. Plus, he loved his kids and would never leave them. Sometimes Jaime just made it hard to stay.
And sometimes, so did Emily.

OH MY LOVE, WON'T YOU STOP YOUR CRYING? THE SUNLIGHT'S BRINGING RAINBOWS TO YOUR TEARS. Emily never minded David's humor. In fact, it was one of the many things she loved about the whole idea of Bones. They often had their little banter sessions just like that of Booth and Brennan, and it made for an all around good time and many, many bloopers for the fans who enjoyed seeing them screw up and mess around with each other. Emily had always thought David's relationship with his wife was perfect. Jaime seemed perfect, and she was obviously beautiful, not to mention ridiculously polite when Emily was around her. She often wondered, though, whether Jaime really liked her. After David's weak moment that ended up in cheating, she wondered if the gorgeous blonde had any suspicions. She knew her husband had when they'd first gotten married. In fact, there'd been quite a few quarrels over it.
But Emily wouldn't intentionally do anything to sabotage David's relationship. Funny as it may sound, he meant so much to her that she had to let it go.
“David's great.” Her lies came so easily when it came to her marriage that she almost forgot she was lying. David himself was wonderful, he was a great guy and everything that came with that. It was just their marriage that had a few bumps. It wasn't them; it was their jobs. “What about Jaime and the kids? I miss them.”
Emily smiled fondly as she remembered Jaden declaring her his girlfriend. “Thank you,” she said as David held the door for her. She exited without another word, observing her surroundings as the two began to walk together. They both had their bumps, metaphorically and Emily's physically as well, but when they were together it seemed so easy...most of the time. By what Emily said, David was always great. Did they have the favorite marriage? Were they in love, unlike him and his own wife? It pained him to have to even think like that. He shouldn't be worried about how happy they were, he should only be concerned with his own marriage. Yet he felt as if it hurt him that they were so happy, and the very act of thinking like this hurt him even more. He needed to let go, obviously she had. Now she was pregnant and was about to start a new family. He had his own family and Jaime was always talking about having another child. It was one of the biggest reasons he avoided being intimate with her, besides the fact that he felt guilty for not being in love with her.
David loved Jaime and he knew he always would, it just wasn't the same. They didn't click like they used to. Nowadays it seemed like they were just two acquaintances who lived together and raised children together. To him she didn't make sense anymore. She said that she wanted more children, but rarely even spends time with their children now. They're usually with the nanny while David is at work, shes more concerned about going to workout and to the salon, or sometimes to the spa. This really irked him. Obviously he wouldn't tell all of this to Emily though.
"The kids are great. Bardot's been talking a lot more. Well, mumbling. But she can say somethings." He truly did love his kids more than anything in the world. When him and Jaime had first had Jaden, they'd planned to have four or five kids. But that was back when they were in their honeymoon stage. David wasn't stupid, he knew that it had to end soon. That wasn't a problem, the problem was feeling that being a husband to her is like having another job. It doesn't make him happy anymore, but he knows that he needs to stay. Quite frankly, it sucks. Especially when he see's couples like Emily and David around, permanently stuck in the honeymoon stage.
As they approached a corner, David rounded it and continued to talk. "I still can't believe your really pregnant. Are you wanting a boy, or a girl? Not that it matters. Trust me, the second you see him or her you'll love them right off the bat." He was simply curious to see what she was wanting to have, though he knew to a parent, it doesn't end up mattering anyways.
